We would like to take a moment to update everybody on the progress of some of our “projects” this year. First and foremost, several people have been asking when we will begin staffing the fire station. The Fire Chief and Board of Trustees are continuing to work toward getting the details worked out in regards to hours staffed, wages and number of personnel to put on station. With that being said, what most people are asking is why we don’t already have the station staffed since the fire levy passed earlier this year. Unfortunately, the funding from that fire levy will not become available until next year. However, at this time we are working toward getting the station staffed by August of this year utilizing current funds. We believe that by waiting until August, we should have enough funding to carry us through the rest of the year until next year’s levy money becomes available. We will keep everybody updated as more information becomes available. Secondly, we were recently updated on the progress of our new ambulance and was told that the delivery date was moved from the end of August to the beginning of August. Once our new ambulance is delivered, we would like to welcome everybody to come in and see it. Lastly, the Fire Department is currently in the process of putting together an open house on June 11th. We are hoping to have several activities for the children to do along with food and several raffles for the adults to participate in. We will also keep everyone updated as more details become available as well.
The Paris Township Fire Department will be holding an open house Saturday June 11th from 12:00 until 4:00. We will have lunch available provided by Disaster Recovery Services along with a Chinese auction (tickets will be 1.00 each or 6 for 5.00) along with a grill set to raffle off for 5.00 per ticket or 6 for 20.00). We are also going to have on display all of the departments fire apparatus, a cruiser from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a helicopter provided by University Hospitals and last but not least the fire departments very first 1953 pumper. We are also hoping to have appearances from the Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft, Portage County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, and displays from Portage County Safe Communities. In addition, we will have several fire safety and prevention booklets available to take home along with our “reflective address sign” order forms for those interested. We would like to welcome everybody to come out and see the displays.
This will be the grill that will be getting raffled off June 11th. All raffle drawings will begin at 4:00 directory following the open house. Winners do not need to be present at the time of the drawings.
